I use the PIA VPN service on my laptop and server. Both run Linux. It is easy to configure NetworkManager to connect to the PIA services with a GNOME desktop, and also easy enough to connect with the OpenVPN command line tool. Very reliable service.

prior VPN worked well but had issues with Windows 10 so tried PIA. No regrets. Periodic drops but not still great service. Easy to set up as well. Using annual subscription made it a very reasonable price.

When I use it, average speeds go up. No idea why, but increased speeds + safe surfing = worth the money! Been using them for over 3 years and wouldn't think to ever end the service.

There is a slowdown of my internet speed a bit through the VPN, but usually, with the Eastern US servers, the speed is about 2MBps, so it's good enough. I've only contacted support once, about a sale deal they had, and the way the deal worked was weird and they wouldn't actually help me with it. And the app could be less ugly. But now I'm just nitpicking. Mostly I'm happy with it.

I consistently receive about 8 mbps download from most North American locations (connecting from Canada, Ontario with a 250/20 mbps line), but haven't used any of the other geographic options available. I find the speed adequate for the cost of the service. The number of technical connection options available in the client allow for balancing between stronger encryption and faster connections. I find the client software is updated fairly regularly too.
