No issues with speed, set up is a bit of a challenge but only once.
Lots of gateways to choose from, a non-terrible OS X and Windows client, speed good enough for HD video streaming
I have been a customer for several years now & have no complaints. I first started with their month-to-month plan but changed to the lower cost annual one within a couple of months. The few (very few) problems I encountered were solved almost immediately with their 24 hour online help chat. The people on he other end were very knowledgeable & friendly. I highly recommend their service.
I live in Nicaragua and use PIA to be able to access US-based media and shopping sites that would otherwise block me for not being in the USA. PIA is fantastic in this respect. It also actually makes my internet connection FASTER. An IT friend tells me it's likely because my Nicaraguan ISP is actually throttling the connection; so the VPN tunnel allows me to bypass their speed-limiting measures. The downside is that when the VPN is connected, my out-going mails won't send--even using a US-based outgoing mail server. I contacted PIA and they sent me some sort of complicated solution to try. It didn't work. It's annoying to have to remember to turn off the VPN every time I want to send an email. Or when I discover an email is still in my outbox because I forgot to turn of the VPN. As I said, I live in Nicaragua, so this problem may have to do with my local non-US ISP. I don't want to throw PIA under the bus if it's not technically their fault but the fact remains that PIA interferes with the outgoing mail on my Mac.
I think this is a great service that works easily. It's not complicated. I tried in in 2012, and it was confusing or not as consistent. But now, I've had it again for about 6 months, and it seems much improved, no problems. Either I figured it out, or they improved it greatly. So, I recommend Private Internet Access. You can watch videos only available in certain countries, for example RTE in Ireland if you set your VPN to Ireland location. You can mask your location. You can cloak your IP address.
I've used PIA for a number of years now. Always great service. When I had a laptop that I installed Linux Mint on, the support staff was insanely helpful. As a new user to that OS I had PIA up and running in 5 min. Top notch support!
I have been using PIA for several years after exhaustive research, etc. It is by far the best service out there. I have referred several other people to the service as well. The ONLY things I wish the service would additionally provide would be: 1. Allow your mobile phone to proxy your connection globally so when you hotspot a tablet etc., it is proxied as well. My children will hotspot my mobile phone while in the car and I have to "turn-off" pia to allow them to connect. 2. On PC, simply show how full each proxy location is, or ping to proxy like you do on mobile app. Outside of that, the service is awesome and I will continue to refer people to the service without reservations.
Before using Private Internet Access, I used two other VPN providers who were both atrocious. Private Internet Access is the only one I would ever recommend. I use it primarily on Linux (yes, it EVEN works flawlessly with Linux) but also Android. I have been with them for about 2 years now. No speed issues ever (EVER). Customer support is available 24/7 via live chat. Support people are both technically very capable and actually give a damn about your situation. I think this is the only company where I can say this. The user interface is easy and becoming easier all the time. In the two years I've been with them, they've never sent me one e-mail that wasn't solicited. Go with this company.

As a tech professional, I have a lot of options as far as VPNs, but the one I personally use is the one I also recommend to clients for its ease of use. Private Internet Access is the fastest, most reliable, and simplest to use. Your computers OS by itself is not the most sensible implementation of VPN because it doesn't contain a safeguard to disconnect from the internet if the VPN fails. PIA does just that - if anything goes wrong, you are protected from sharing information.
