The software itself is brilliant, easy to use, and does what it's supposed to, and for the price I pay for the year, it's totally worth it. Like other reviewers have said, my download speed has been known to suffer from time to time however, it is only minimal and not a constant problem. There was an apparent security hitch the other month, but customers were informed and an update was released immediately, this was a total 1 off so not too concerning. Other than that I have had no other problems with the software itself. My only other gripe is with the company itself. I paid for my first 12 months subscription is credit card and it was an easy transaction. Fast forward a year and I receive an email saying that the company has taken payment for the next 12 months, from my credit. I hadn't requested this, or even authorised this so I was a bit annoyed that they felt they can just charge me for the next year ASSUMING I wanted to continue. Luckily I was going to anyway but still, I didn't think a company could charge to credit cards without the holders permission. Like I say a couple of things, which are owt or nowt really, and I can't really fault the software so 4/5 from me.
I wish they would come up with a solution to fix the problem with Netflix. I know other VPN's are. This is primarily why I need it.
yah n*gga works good. 5mb/s torrents. word up
Works ok for non netflix use but is of no use for netflix. makes one wonder how "private" it can really be.
I've been using PIA for a couple of years now and it just works, which is exactly what I need. When I have had issue their support team has been excellent. Performance does vary, but I think this may be more to do with my connection. The only issue I do have is being unable to send email when connected (Mac / Mail). I need to look into this and see if there is a workaround.
I am from the US living in a foreign country. I originally began using the private internet access service as a tool to help me market my websites to clients from other countries. As time went on and the service became more popular I did notice a slowdown but not unreasonable. I am now retired having sold my company and was using PIA with my subscription to Netflix to receive the programming from the United States. When PIA made the decision to kowtow to big money pressure I can no longer watch the US Netflix. The problem that this has caused is that my hearing is very poor and getting worse as time goes on and the country I live in does not offer English subtitles with almost any of their Netflix offerings. Having invested almost all the money from the sale of my company into a home and the property for it my wife and I are living on a very limited income and Netflix was one of the few luxuries we afforded ourselves. I know you're all thinking why don't I just get a hearing aid but number one is the money issue and number two I have tried several different models and I still, even with the use of a hearing aid, have a problem understanding a lot of spoken words. Consequently I have already canceled my Netflix subscription and will not be renewing my PIA subscription. I am currently searching for other alternatives among which is Amazon prime which seems to have a great programming lineup and a lot of different benefits and a slightly cheaper price when purchasing a year subscription and so far is not blocking any VPNs that I know of. I will however not be renewing my PIA subscription because I no longer trust them since I know they have the technology to bypass geo-blocking but have made the decision not to based solely on what I believe to be a financial consideration. Who's to say that they won't bend over for the next guy that walks into the room and opens his billfold. I know that PIA is not solely to blame but I do believe that they have colluded with Netflix to leave the old, poor, and mostly deaf to bear the brunt of this decision. But on the other hand my wife has always said that my hearing is completely selective.
I have used Private Internet Access for two years now, and my experience has been excellent. During this time, their customer support has been quick to respond to my questions and concerns (and I've only had a few). I have begun to rely more on them recently, as my ISP has begun throttling bandwidth when I play flash video content, such as YouTube. The small performance hit in overall bandwidth is nothing in comparison to my ISP's throttling, so I am very satisfied.
As an Australian user I was delighted to see servers located in Australia. Considering the state of the Australian infrastructure I wasn't surprised at a small reduction in badwidth when using PIA (on the AUS servers, a bit more in some other parts of the world), but the difference is negligible.
The support is just GREAT!!; however, I have noticed a significant loss of bandwidth while PIA is active. As of late I have to terminate PIA and connect directly via ethernet cable to facilitate download of large files. I also have PIA on my IPHONE but am not experiencing bandwidth decline
If you review the recent comments on the PIA Facebook page you will find that a large number of PIA users are frustrated by a recent block from Netflix if PIA is enabled. This is a deal breaker for some when considering whether to renew with PIA or go to another VPN. I'm not sure the geo-uncloaking of PIA suggests a lack of anonymity or not. But, worth considering.
