After extensive internet research on how to access BBC iPlayer through a VPN this service is recommended. At the point of purchase there is no warning that BBC iPlayer now block this VPN so it is completely useless. Their technical and billing strategies to manage customer complaints are also terrible. Steer clear !!!
I am on an ultrafast fibre broadband connection and this VPN service crippled my download speeds to about 30% of what my ISP provider delivers. It was nice to have such a wide variety of country options, but the PIA service dropped on several occasions to reveal my true IP address. There are other VPN services at slightly lower pricing which have inbuilt protection against dropouts, so I have switched to one of them and enjoying the full potential on my ultrafast broadband connection again.
has been pretty solid for me, but speeds are obviously not strong compared to bypassing the VPN. also, it does drop out occasionally, and when it does your connection defaults to being open and unprotected. they have a feature called "VPN kill switch" which disables your internet when the VPN looses connection, but many times it has caused issues with my internet settings. FYI, if you want to use netflix, you now have to first disable the VPN which gets annoying flipping it on and off and having to think about which connections might be open.
I have not had any issues with my ISP (which I had before I subscribed to Private Internet Access) but with 30 MBPS download speed, I get significant slowdown with PIN up. For example, if I'm downloading a file at 1-2 MBPS, I have trouble loading web pages or downloading/uploading any other files, everything slows down that uses the internet. I use PIN when I'm downloading files to protect myself but other than that, I have to turn it off because it causes internet performance/slowdowns.
Too many dropped connections. When it works, I'm very happy. It is frustrating, to say the least, when a connection gets dropped in mid-transaction, leaving me vulnerable. This happens with my desktop connection as well as with my portables.
I was sort of fearful that using a vpn my throughput would have been drastically lowered but no so with PIA i still have the same throughput i had before with the occasional slight increase in ping times. They offer a wide variety of protocols and servers in a wide range of locations. Their desktop app is quite easy to use and they have guides for almost every scenario. I would recommend PIA to anyone looking for a good vpn subscription
PIA is the best VPN service available. Here are a few reasons why: - Excellent performance - IT Security best practices - Privacy oriented & dedicated to respecting user's privacy - Supports a wide range of open source routers & popular systems - Valuable support and documentation
I've had PIA for over two years and I was wonderful and I told everyone I knew they needed to get onto PIA. But ever since Windows 10 it's been unreliable. It keeps dropping my connections without me knowing it, leaving me hanging in the wind. If I do not see some improved connections soon I will start to look for other options.
So, they tend to automatically renew service without notice. When I go to change this, I'm unable to log on to my account. After being completely ignored in their customer service chat, I'm starting to realize that they don't care at all about their actual customers, just getting people to sign up. I do have to say that I found it funny that as soon as I mentioned that I'd be leaving a bad review, "Skye B" got back to me within about 12 seconds. You can tell the quality of a company when they only respond to customer complaints after the customer threatens to leave a bad review. Don't give this company your credit card information. It's a scam.
We have had PIA for over two years and used to love it for the ease of use. (We got it expressly to access sites from the UK, especially the BBC.) Unfortunately, due to the BBC blocking virtual private networks, we are no longer able to access the BBC without a lot of hassle. As soon as BBC recognises that VPN is in use, it cuts out and automatically puts me onto the BBCinternational site (BBCi.co.uk) as well as employing a digital survey programme which is able to detect that the IPP is not from the UK. Unless I remove all my website data, I cannot access our favourite BBC sites. Now I feel as though we have PIA for no reason and are paying for a service that we are unable to use.
