Have had a little trouble with slow servers & being dropped from servers on occasion, but when I contact customer service they're usually right on top of it & able to help me quickly. One drawback I never though of - some public wi-fi hotspots actively block VPN's, so PIA is unusable in those locations. One example I found is a McDonald's. Otherwise fast, reliable, cost-effective, easy to use & great service.
Have used this off and on for four years and found it reliable and safe. Particularly useful for getting around geoblocked web sites.
I had a small challenge setting up, all on my end, the chat line was very helpful and everything has been working well so far.
I wanted a VPN that didn't require a lot of time to set up and was also looking for a value. PIA has good reputation, is very simple to use, allows customers up to five devices, and is probably the biggest value out there.
The company is great. The 4 stars are more for the stupid amount of blockage from content providers. The service itself is 5 stars. But I didn't buy it for the customer service, but the vpn one. This artificial content boundaries are getting old fast. PIA is a great vpn provider. Both openvpn based and pptp socks etc ("windows" vpn) are provided. It works great it's fast, I normally get 20+mbps from us-east from south America which is awesome. Seriously no complains. Been a customer for over 5 years. In 5 years I didn't even have to check for other providers.
Pros: My internet speeds are almost just as fast with the VPN, it's easy to turn on and off, good number of servers to choose from, simple interface, affordable prices, supports torrents, relatively good online documentation. Cons: May take a while to reconnect from standby/hibernation on Windows 10, user interface is limited in features and usability is a bit uncomfortable, may prevent your Windows 10 apps from communicating with the Store (or maybe it's just me, lol), claims to keep no logs but doesn't prove that the third party servers you connect to adhere to that claim.
Fast speeds and dependable service
Affordable and reliable on my Windows, Linux, and Android devices. Windows and Android client setup is extremely easy, and has all the options I've needed. At the risk of plagiarizing F.E.'s review, I must repeat his concerns though ... for non-techie Linux clients, they're pretty much on their own with PIA using OpenVPN. A Linux Mint client as easy to use as the Windows client should be made available for OpenVPN users. That would certainly help me regarding Friday evening support calls from grandma!
Just about as good, as affordable, as reliable, as friendly as it gets. VPN services seem unapproachable for the often self-labeled "non-techies". Pretty much little to no knowledge is needed; it is as general audience friendly as you could hope for. My only gripe is that the company targets non-techies on Windows and Mac. The assumption remains that, if on Linux, then one should deal with OpenVpn on one's own with the provided instructions. That is fair but when I am trying to convince others to use Linux Mint, the now leader of the game and extremely friendly to non-techies, there is no easy setup or client. Please make that happen. Make a simple client that reliably works for Mint and I could convince others more easily.
Excellent Performance: I mainly use with openvpn on my linux systems.
