Since I signed up to PIA, I've been testing the service. Two issue stands out, none of which Private Internet Access (PIA) was able to resolve for me. It appeared they were known issues that PIA forgot to mention or failed inform their prospective new customers. When you connect up to PIA VPN, your internet speed WILL be slowed down, from the extensive tests that I have done, on a VPN connected computer the percentage of reduction is speed/slow is ~25%. That is the drop of your internet speed you will experience when connected up to the PIA VPN. ie if your raw un-VPN download speed is, say 1MB/s, when you connect up to PIA VPN, the maximum speed you will achieve is ~750KB/s. From the tests that I have done, there seems to be more fluctuation of the download speed when downloading with PIA VPN, say if your un-VPN speed is 1MB/s your typical download ranges will fluctuate between ~400KB/s to ~650KB/s and peak/max out at 750KB/s. That is the drop of speed you will expect from PIA VPN between un-VPN download and PIA VPN download. Secondly, if you have any local LAN NAS mapped drives, when you connect up to the PIA VPN, you WILL lose all your local mapped NAS drive resource, the PIA VPN software WILL drop all your local mapped NAS drive on your computer you initiated your VPN. I wish I knew about this earlier before I sign up, that may have prompted me to look for other alternatives. From a security POV, PIA VPN seems to do it's job in masking your IP location and protection from DNS leak test. If you are planning to connect to/use the PIA VPN through a mobile device, eg. a phone or tablet via mobile broadband, DO NOT do that, your speed drop on your mobile device will be much more significant that at points, unusable, PLUS, from the test that I've done, DNS leak test failed when tested through mobile devices. From the brief research, it has something to do with mobile tower GPS triangulation reception which seems to leak and give out your real location. Buyers beware.
